« on: August 26, 2008, 01:40:14 AM »
Free download of ...

Download both the program file (win_versesPS2.exe) and data file (verses.dat) here:

Or ... get OLD (compiled) version at the link below (that uses the same verses.dat file as above) ...

Get source files:

1. .hla program file ...

2. .hhf helper file ...

3. .dat text data file at link above ...

Or try this (old version) at ...

but you need this data text file in the same folder/directory for it to run ...
(see the LAST 6 data PAGEs here ... and paste them all into a text editor like notepad and file then as one file named verses.dat ... Note: that text file needs to be in the same folder as the .exe win_versesPS.exe so that it can find it ... OR ... just download the file verses.dat at the link above)

... so you might BE WELL inspired for your day :)

A free program presenting a Heaven sent inspiration for each day.

Please also visit home page's at:

Source code available at:

files (section - You may have to register with Yahoo free groups, to access.)

go to "a temp" folder

go down to my "win_versesPS.zip" file ... and download it to your computer

Please see next article to find out how to readily customize your daily text so that you may have YOUR NAME(s) appear INSTEAD OF the default names "Jane and John" ... in your daily inspiration.

I just discovered this following link and web site ... (See below. If you are reading this page, then you may like that web based and e-mail of "Daily Verses" ... See the example for Friday, August 29, 2008 below.)

Browse Daily Verses ...

Choose from any of these versions ...

Here is the "Daily Verse" from Friday, August 29, 2008...
<< Previous Friday, August 29, 2008 Next >>

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:6-10  (King James Version)

To have this program ...

RUN ... with YOUR name(s), instead of the default of "Jane and John"

Just place this TEXT FILE ("my_win_versesPS.bat" ... below) ... into
the same folder where you placed/downloaded the program file "win_versesPS.exe"

Then you may make a "shortcut" to that batch file "my_win_verses.bat"    by ...

RIGHT clicking on it, (i.e. the new file in that folder that you saved as ... my_win_verses.bat),
and following the menu to make a shortcut.

Then ... place a copy of that "shortcut" on your DESKTOP

so that you can then CLICK on the ICON of that "shortcut"

whenever you would like some HEAVEN SENT inspiration :)

Shalom shalom,

P.S.  Oh yeah ... here is that TEXT FILE ... name it/save it as ... mywin_versesPS.bat

P.P.S.  You may use any Windows text editor, like "notepad", to paste the following text into it ... and then to save it with the file name desired using ...   Save as ... mywin_versesPS.bat

rem ~~~ START COPY and PASTE HERE ~~~

rem FILE NAME: mywin_versesPS.bat

@echo off

win_versesPS.exe   <YOUR name(s) go here>

rem  ~~~~ END COPY and PASTE HERE ~~~~

Thanks for asking about this program.  At the present ... it is supplied 'as is'.  It just uses the following simple Windows call ...

w.MessageBox( NULL, verseStr, topLine, w.MB_OK );

to show a string in an elementary Window.  Try here ...

for info on Windows Assembly Language Programming ... and see especially the Iczelion Tutorials.

The following are some of the reknown Iczelion win32 tutorials with their text and code updated for HLA (the original tutorials used MASM). Check back here frequently because new translations will appear on a regular basis.

Note: because of changes in the HLA language over the past two years, it's not a good idea to enter the HLA code that appears in the following documents. Instead, download the HLA source code (the zip file) and work from that. The source code for the Iczelion Tutorials (converted to HLA) can be found on the HLA download page.

        * Tutorial #1: the Basics

        * Tutorial #2: MessageBox

        * Tutorial #3: A Simple Window

        * Tutorial #6: Keyboard Input

Hi There,

I play around with the win_versesPS, modify it to display some Buddhist text in Chinese, and find that works!

However, a little DOS screen comes with the Windows message box!

Does anyone know why? How to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance,

Did you use -w when you compiled/assembled with HLA?

Try this:

HLA -w myWinHLAprogram.hla

to produce a

that doesn't show a 'black' window.

Hmm...David, I used the -w option as suggested but the weird thing is:

when I double click myWinHLAprogram.exe, everything is perfect!

However, when I double click the batch file winToday.bat,

the DOS thing comes with the verses window!

Any idea on how to get rid of the ugly 'black' window, sir?

If you don't want to see the 'black screen' .... then don't use a batch file.

Use instead a 'shortcut' to the xxx.exe file.

You can change the xxx.hla program so that it defaults to what names you want ...

change the xxx.hla program to read a xxx.txt file ( in the same folder as the xxx.exe file) when it runs ...

to read any data you may like to put in that text file.

Happy HLA programming.

0217     "Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our
0217      sorrows; yet we considered him stricken by God,
0217      smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for
0217      our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
0217      the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and
0217      by his wounds we are healed."        Isaiah 53:4,5

0219                              Matthew 28:5,6; 24:44
0220     "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a
0220      shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the
0220      trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first;
0220      Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
0220      together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in
0220      the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

0229      return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him;
0229      and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."
